Gas SmartPoint alarms
Sensus gas SmartPoint modules monitor their operation for exceptional or abnormal conditions. When the module detects one of these alarm conditions it is logged in non-volatile memory. If the module is configured for fixed-base mode, an alarm notification message transmits to the RNI.

Electric meter alerts
Sensus electric meters and third-party meters in a FlexNet system generate alarms, errors and warnings. These alert notifications are transmitted in multiple ways.
Water meter alerts
Sensus water meters and SmartPoint modules in a FlexNet system generate alarms. These alert notifications are viewed on the LCD or through Device Manager.
Water SmartPoint alarms
Sensus water SmartPoint modules monitor their operation for exceptional or abnormal conditions. When the module detects one of these alarm conditions it is logged in non-volatile memory. If the module is configured for fixed-base mode, an alarm notification message transmits to the RNI.
Gas meter alerts
Gas meter alerts can originate from either the SmartPoint module or the metrology.
Gas SmartPoint alarms
Sensus gas SmartPoint modules monitor their operation for exceptional or abnormal conditions. When the module detects one of these alarm conditions it is logged in non-volatile memory. If the module is configured for fixed-base mode, an alarm notification message transmits to the RNI.
- Reporting alarms
  Alarms transmit via an alarm message or read message depending on whether they are in a Walk-by/Drive-by or Fixed-Base system.
- Latching alarms
  Latching alarms are alarms that continue to report for a period of time even after the condition clears.
- Clearing alarms
  Alarms may be cleared via message rather than waiting for the alarm to expire and self-clear.

    The following describes the alarms, errors, and warnings for the North American two-way gas water SmartPoint modules.
  - Alarm message format
    The control byte and the repeat level/status byte in the header of each message indicate the presence of alarm conditions.

The Sensus Smart Gateway Sensor Interface reports alerts that can originate from the Smart Gateway, and its attached digital inputs and sensors.
Base Station alerts
Base Stations have eight bits for alarms, which display differently depending on the model of Base Station.

Walk-By/Drive-By mode

When the SmartPoint module reading is requested in Walk-By/Drive-By (WB/DB) mode (via tone), it responds with an appcode 70 reading message. This message contains the current reading and an indicator of any historical alarms.

If the current reading is unknown (because the last scheduled meter reading failed), the SmartPoint module sends an alarm message (appcode 11) instead of the WB/DB reading message. To indicate the transmission of the alarm message, the transmission in lieu of reading alarm bit is set. The reading value is set to zero ("0"), as the value is unknown.
