Alarm sources
Sensus NA2W Water alarms can be generated by the meter or the attached SmartPoint module, depending on the type of meter and the applied meter configuration.
- SmartPoint module alarms, which are either indicative of the status of the SmartPoint module, such as a SmartPoint low battery alarm, or are water volume alarm conditions that the SmartPoint module detects based on readings retrieved from the meter or register.
- Smart Meter alarms, which are alarms where the triggering condition is detected by the meter or register itself.
SmartPoint module alarms
There are two types of alarms that are triggered by readings from the meter or register for NA2W Water SmartPoint modules:
- Legacy SmartPoint alarms
- Alarms that are configured by selecting one of four fixed detection thresholds values based on the Unit of Measure and scaled to the Measurement Resolution from the SmartPoint module's configuration, which should match the configuration of the attached register.
- Granular SmartPoint alarms
- Alarms with configurable detection thresholds that are very flexible, and are not restricted to the four fixed Legacy SmartPoint alarm detection thresholds.
- High Flow alarms (previously Broken Pipe)
- Reverse Flow
- Continuous Flow (previously Customer Leak or Leak)
Both types of alarms are communicated from the SmartPoint module using the same FlexNet messages.
Smart Meter alarms
There are two types of Smart Meter alarms for NA2W Water meters:
- Alpha/Beta alarms
- Alpha/Beta alarms are fully supported in the iPERL meter, and partially supported by the ally meter when it is in Normal mode.
- Gen2 Smart Meter alarms
- Gen2 Smart Meter alarms are significantly more configurable than Alpha/Beta alarms and SmartPoint alarms. Meters and registers that support Gen2 alarms utilize a common alarm engine that supports multiple alarm types. Each sensor channel, such as volume, temperature, and pressure, supports a selection of these alarms with a corresponding numeric threshold and detection interval.
Normal mode and Smart Meter mode
Whether alarms are triggered by readings taken by the SmartPoint module or by the meter itself is determined by if the meter is in Normal mode or Smart Meter mode.
The ally meter supports limited Alpha/Beta alarm reporting when it is in Normal mode. Use the "Enable Advanced Features" action in RNI Device Manager to enable an ally meter to use Gen2 Smart Meter alarm configuration and reporting.
The Cordonel NA and Electronic Register+ support Gen2 Smart Meter alarms when they are activated in Smart Meter mode. When these meters are in Normal mode, only SmartPoint module alarms are available.
